What is the Hackathon about?

What

Recharge Eindhoven is an intensive and creative hackathon organised by the Municipality of Eindhoven and MAD emergent art center at the Student Base of High Tech Campus Eindhoven, where participants on 3 + 4 October 2026 collaborate on innovative solutions. Entrepreneurs, engineers, inventors, hackers, architects, artists, and students; anyone with a sharp mind is invited.

…

How

During the hackathon, participants are challenged on the topic of grid congestion in the Eindhoven region. The focus is not only on technical solutions, but also on forms of collaboration, smart energy systems, behavioural change, and governance models that help Eindhoven become a resilient and sustainable city of the future.

…

Why

With this hackathon, we want to raise awareness about the topic and show how seriously we, as the Municipality of Eindhoven, are working on this problem. In addition, we encourage the region to look beyond traditional boundaries, challenge assumptions, and develop bold ideas for this complex and multifaceted issue.

Hackathon Challenges

  1. Team up to Diminish | Collective Energy Sharing
  2. Soften the Peak | Dynamic Peak Shaving
  3. Heat & Cold Buffering | Energy System Flexibility
  4. Human Power |New Energy Workforce Systems
  5. Full-electric Living | Electrifying Without Grid Upgrades

Join now and get your free ticket!

Whether you are an engineer, inventor, legal hacker, system architect, artist, scientist or whizz kid, everyone with a bright mind is invited to share their perspective. The solutions we need may come from energy technology, data science, AI, mobility, digital platforms, social innovation, finance, or from unexpected combinations of fields.
This is an invitation to look beyond traditional boundaries, challenge assumptions, and develop bold ideas that can help Eindhoven continue to grow without being constrained by the limits of today’s electricity network. The municipality of Eindhoven – in collaboration with Enexis – invites you to participate and collaborate.

A few words

About Eindhoven

Eindhoven is a city in full development. More and more people are finding their way to the city, whether to live, work, study, or visit. And that is not surprising, because Eindhoven has a lot to offer. The city is experiencing economic growth. This leads to significant employment opportunities and chances for new developments. Here, we are working together on the future.

To prevent large-scale outages and further connection stoppages, Eindhoven is collaborating with other parties.

These are Enexis, TenneT, the national government (Ministry of Economic Affairs), the Eindhoven Metropolitan Area, Brainport Development, and the Province of North Brabant. Together, we are working on a package of measures to limit the consequences of grid congestion, with the aim of enabling the region to continue growing and becoming more sustainable.
